Horsetail has been used in non-healing wounds, rheumatic diseases, and gout. Its active components include widely known therapeutic antioxidants such as flavonoids, saponins, glycosides, as well as carbonic and potassium acids. These ingredients confer antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, and diuretic properties to the plant, making it beneficial for treating kidney and urinary tract infections, as well as benign prostatic hyperplasia (benign prostate enlargement).
The silica acid in its content strengthens and tightens connective tissue in the body. Therefore, it is effective against age-related connective tissue sagging. In clinical studies, it has been shown to have significant healing effects on urinary incontinence, nighttime bedwetting, bursitis, thyroid gland enlargement (goiter), congestion, heart failure–related edema, and general wound-healing insufficiencies. When applied to the skin, it supports the healing of chronic wounds and bleeding (such as leg ulcers, dermatitis).
Horsetail is generally known for its dissolving and cleansing properties. It supports kidney disorders, urinary tract infections, and helps remove unwanted toxic substances from the body. The silica acids in its composition stimulate kidney activity and increase the body’s resistance.
In a study conducted in Poland using AAS analysis, horsetail was found to contain calcium, magnesium, sodium, and significant amounts of iron, and it was explained that these minerals are highly absorbable. These minerals help regulate kidney functions and blood purification.
In a Brazilian study, horsetail’s antinociceptive (pain-reducing) and anti-inflammatory properties were investigated. It was observed to have analgesic and anti-inflammatory effects. In nature, every plant has a relationship with a particular organ; in this regard, horsetail (known as “kidney grass” in Turkish) can be considered naturally created for kidney, bladder, and urinary tract health.

Nettle (Urtica dioica L.) is a long-lived plant from the Urticaceae (nettle) family. Its leaves and stem are covered with stinging hairs, it is seed-bearing, most often without milky sap, with simple leaves and small flowers — a wild herbaceous plant.
The primary chemical components found in the leaves and roots of nettle include: sterols, isolectin, fatty acids, scopoletin and polysaccharides, as well as agglutinin, acetophenone, alkaloids, acetylcholine, astragalin, chlorogenic acid, butyric acid, chlorophyll, caffeic acid, carbonic acid, choline, histamine, coumaric acid, folic acid, formic acid, fridelin, pantothenic acid, kaempferol, lectins, lecithin, lignans, linoleic acid, linolenic acid, palmitic acid, xanthophyll, quercetin, sitosterols, quinic acid, scopoletin, serotonin, stigmasterol, terpenes, violaxanthin, and succinic acid.
Nettle leaves and seeds are known to be used alone or together with other herbs in the treatment of diseases such as cancer, diabetes, eczema, hemorrhoids, liver inflammation, anemia, rheumatism, and prostate cancer. The plant is known for its analgesic, antimicrobial, blood-pressure-lowering, antidiabetic, cardiovascular, diuretic, and anti-inflammatory (reducing inflammatory reactions) properties.
